Appalachia will strengthen US' role in global chemicals, says Perry

Ample low-cost shale gas in the Appalachian region is a huge opportunity for the US that will help the country compete in the global chemical sector, says Energy Secretary Rick Perry, citing a new Energy Department report. "We have done good work in developing the abundance of the Permian Basin and the Gulf of Mexico -- and there's still much more we can do -- but we also have a special opportunity in the Appalachian region," he says.
