Rwanda will start growing a biotech Irish potato variety called Victoria, developed by the International Potato Centre, which has proven to be resistant to blight, according to Patrick Karangwa, Director General of the Rwanda Agriculture Board. This particular variety reduces the cost of pesticide sprays for farmers as well as the harmful effects of pesticides on the environment.
