Scientists alter brewer's yeast genes to reduce environmental footprint

A research team at the University of California at Berkeley engineered the linalool- and geraniol-producing genetic pathways in brewer's yeast intending to reduce the environmental footprint of beer production. The team introduced genes from basil and mint into the yeast using CRISPR and edited some yeast genes.
