Fla. Keys to release biotech mosquitoes to prevent dengue

A dengue fever outbreak has occurred in the Florida Keys for the first time in a decade, and officials will be testing a controversial method to rid the area of the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that cause the spread of the disease. With the help of Oxitec, the plan is to release 750 million biotech male mosquitoes with a self-limiting gene that will cause offspring to die instead of thrive, and the exact location is yet to be determined.
