The US House of Representatives has approved a six-bill FY2021 minibus package that includes an amendment revoking a rule that prohibits federal expenditures on the promulgation or adoption of a unique patient identifier system. If the language passes the Senate, HHS would be able to develop a nationwide patient-matching strategy, which could improve continuity of care and reduce medical errors, advocates say.
