Local radio and television broadcasting contributes $1.17 trillion to the GDP and employs some 2.47 million people, a report from Woods & Poole Economics shows. Gordon Smith, CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, which commissioned the report, says the numbers indicate that local broadcasting "plays a pivotal economic role as well, creating hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs while helping hometown small businesses reach local consumers through advertising."
