Democratic control of the US House of Representatives in January will usher in Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, a music industry supporter, and the Senate will gain Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., another ally of the music business. Though critics are concerned that Democrats will rein in the Federal Communications Commission's agenda, National Association of Broadcasters President Gordon Smith feels optimistic about working with Nadler, saying, "I've had very fruitful conversations with him ... and he is not insensitive to our position and is open to our inclusion in any kind of legislation that could move forward."
