Randy Wyner and Dan Biello started Chronic Tacos in 2002 in Newport Beach, Calif., eventually opening about 30 locations before selling the brand. Later, Wyner reached out to Michael Mohammed, a Canadian franchisee financier, to buy back the company. After the deal closed in 2012, the company focused on fine-tuning its branding and systems before starting to grow once more.
