Seventy-seven of the nearly 2,900 drugs covered by Medicare Part D accounted for about half of total drug spending in 2017, and the per-dose cost of 22 drugs rose more than 500% from 2013 through 2017, according to an analysis of CMS data. "Those very high prices on individual drugs can be barriers to any beneficiary using them at all," said Vanderbilt University Medical Center professor Stacie Dusetzina, who studies drug pricing.
