A study in the Journal of the American Heart Association showed the premature cardiac death rate decreased across the US from 1999 to 2017, but within that group, the number of out-of-hospital PCDs increased from 58.3% to 61.5%. The premature cardiac death cohort included patients ages 35 to 74 who had an underlying cause of death due to cardiac disease.
