Study finds link between fasting insulin levels, marijuana use

A study published in the Journal of Diabetes, based on 2009-2016 data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey involving 129,509 adults, found that adults with obesity who used marijuana at least eight times monthly but had quit had a 35% to 47% reduction in fasting insulin levels and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, compared with never-users. Researchers also found fewer links between insulin levels and marijuana use among adults with a body mass index between 25 kg/m2 and 30 kg/m2 or less than 25 kg/m2, compared with those with obesity.
