Researchers studied 67 youths who were positive for COVID-19 and found that 28% of admitted youths were admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit, of which 77% had acute respiratory distress syndromes and 58.3% had severe sepsis and septic shock syndromes. The findings in The Journal of Pediatrics also showed that PICU admission was significantly associated with higher platelet counts and higher levels of procalcitonin, C-reactive protein and pro-B type natriuretic peptide.
