Obesity and severe obesity put children at increased risk for premature cardiovascular disease in adulthood, according to a study published in Circulation. The American Heart Association report outlines guidelines for management and treatment of heart disease in children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, congenital heart disease, and familial high cholesterol, and lists type 2 diabetes as a high-risk condition because of its association with obesity and high blood pressure.
