Diabetes patients with schizophrenia at high risk for complications

A study in Diabetes Care showed that type 1 diabetes patients with schizophrenia were at a higher risk of being rehospitalized for diabetes-related complications, including coma, ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, and had a higher hospital mortality and hospitalization risk for suicide attempts. Researchers evaluated 45,655 individuals ages 15 to 35 and found an association between being hospitalized for attempted suicide and a higher risk for hospitalization for complications related to acute diabetes, independent of schizophrenia.
