Hospitals across New York City, which has become a hot spot for the novel coronavirus pandemic, are starting to see the kind of surge in cases that has burdened health systems in China, Italy and elsewhere, and a government briefing predicts the city's ICU beds will be full by Friday. Dr. Ashley Bray, a physician at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, said three of her patients died within a few hours on Tuesday and 13 of the hospital's infected patients died in one day, in a scenario she described as "apocalyptic."
