A study published in the journal Diabetologia found that women who had lost one, two or three pregnancies were 18%, 38% and 71% more likely, respectively, to develop type 2 diabetes compared with women who had never lost a pregnancy. The study did not show cause and effect, and the researchers suggested that women with three or more miscarriages should have their blood glucose monitored often to reduce their diabetes risk and allow for earlier detection and treatment.
