Patients with type 2 diabetes were at an increased risk of being hospitalized for pandemic influenza but had a lower pandemic influenza hospitalization-associated mortality risk than those without diabetes, according to findings reported in the Journal of Internal Medicine. Researchers analyzed data from several national registers for Norwegian residents ages 30 and older from 2009 to 2013 and found a lower rate of pandemic influenza hospitalization among vaccinated diabetes patients, compared with nonvaccinated patients.
