Seventy-one percent of practicing physicians said they were happy and 57% reported having "a lot" or "a great deal" of enjoyment of their lives, while 59% reported satisfaction with their lives, and those in practice for more than 30 years had the greatest satisfaction, according to the 2019 American Academy of Family Physicians/CompHealth Physician Happiness Survey. The poll also showed that physicians' number of friends in the workplace was tied to their life satisfaction, while insufficient control, clerical burdens and emotional exhaustion were the main reasons for unhappiness with work.
