Roughly 50% of patients with COVID-19 whose head CT and/or MRI scans showed brain bleeds, blocked blood vessels and strokes had preexisting type 2 diabetes or hypertension, while Black patients accounted for two-thirds of those with critical brain imaging findings, according to a study to be presented at the Radiological Society of North America's annual meeting. The findings should prompt increased monitoring of COVID-19-related neurologic complications in people with diabetes and hypertension, as well as Black patients, researchers said.
