Data from 2019 show the US had the largest per-capita primary care workforce on record but primary care physicians still make up only about 30% of all physicians, Andrew Bazemore, M.D., senior vice president of research and policy at the American Board of Family Medicine, told a forum hosted by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Other speakers talked about a need for equity and diversity in the primary care workforce and more investment in primary care overall.
