A study in the Journal of Diabetes found that the risk of having a preterm delivery, as well as a cesarean section, large-for-gestational-age offspring and offspring with macrosomia, were higher among women with gestational diabetes and a high level of insulin resistance, compared with those with gestational diabetes and a low level of insulin resistance. Researchers analyzed data from 2,647 women with gestational diabetes and found stronger associations for women with a body mass index between 18.5 kg/m2 and less than 24 kg/m2, even when adjustments like prepregnancy BMI and pregestational diabetes diagnosis weight gain were considered.
