At least 12 states have paused or rolled back plans to relax restrictions in hopes of containing a surge of COVID-19 cases after several states and the entire country marked another record single-day increase in new infections on Friday. John Hopkins University reports that the US has seen more than 125,000 deaths from COVID-19, while the global toll has surpassed 10 million infections and 500,000 deaths.
