Individuals who had a severe hypoglycemia episode were at a significantly higher risk for coronary heart disease and all-cause mortality, compared with those who didn't experience severe hypoglycemia, according to a study presented at the Heart in Diabetes conference. Researchers evaluated data from the ARIC study involving 15,792 adults, mean age of 65, and found that severe hypoglycemia was also associated with 1.51 times increased risk for mild cognitive impairment and 2.35 times greater odds for dementia.
