Researchers analyzed patient experience ratings and services offered for 2,798 hospitals across the US and found that hospitals given five stars were 84% to 92% less likely to offer emergency, cardiology or neurology services or intensive care. The findings, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, suggest patients -- particularly those with multiple medical problems and chronic conditions -- should not solely rely on five-star ratings when selecting hospitals, researcher Dr. Zishan Siddiqui said.
