ADA updates diabetes care standards

The American Diabetes Association 2019 Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes "emphasize a patient-centered approach that considers the multiple health and life factors of each person living with diabetes," said Dr. William Cefalu, the ADA's chief scientific, medical and mission officer. Published in Diabetes Care, the updated standards include new lifestyle management recommendations, management guidance for new-onset diabetes among youths with overweight or obesity, new goals for shared decision-making between provider and patient, and a new treatment algorithm for insulin therapy.
