Researchers found that 4% of children and teens around the world had hypertension, with the prevalence of childhood hypertension increasing at a relative rate of 75% to 79% from 2000 to 2015. The findings in JAMA Pediatrics, based on a systematic review and meta-analysis of 47 studies between 1994 and 2018 involving youths ages 6 to 19, also showed significantly higher hypertension prevalence among those who were overweight and obese.
