A small Canadian study in BMJ Case Reports included three diabetes patients who were told to fast three times each week or do 24-hour fasts every other day. Researchers found all three patients lost weight and had improved A1C levels and that two patients no longer needed to take any diabetes medication, while one patient continued taking one oral drug but did not need insulin.
