The risk of hospitalization, including time in the intensive care unit and intubation, is higher in COVID-19 patients who have gastrointestinal symptoms, according to a study presented by Darbaz Adnan of Rush University Medical Center at the ACG's 2020 Virtual Annual Scientific Meeting. Patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, higher BMIs and who were older were more likely to have GI symptoms, according to the study.
