A study in Diabetologia showed that type 2 diabetes patients who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery had a reduced risk for microvascular and macrovascular complications than those who did not undergo the procedure. Danish researchers used a cohort of 2,185 diabetes patients and also found that 74% of those in the RYGB group experienced diabetes remission one year after the procedure, though 27% had a relapse at five years.
