National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci said vaccinations will not only stop the spread of COVID-19 but will also hinder the virus' ability to mutate into new variants, and he expects the US to approach a sense of normalcy by fall if the government will get 70% to 80% of the country vaccinated by the middle or end of summer. More than 17.5 million vaccine doses had been administered to date, and nearly 2.4 million people have been fully vaccinated, the CDC reported.
