French and Italian researchers analyzed 27 morbidly obese individuals scheduled to undergo bariatric surgery and found patients had "highly significant" reductions in liver size and body weight, as well as improved micronutrient status, after consuming a preoperative ketogenic micronutrient-enriched diet for four weeks. The findings, published in the journal Obesity Surgery, also revealed that patients had high compliance in the diet and reported no adverse side effects.
