Arthur Riggs, the researcher behind the breakthrough technology that led to the first synthetic human insulin, has donated $100 million to City of Hope, a cancer and diabetes research and treatment center in Duarte, Calif. Riggs has worked with City of Hope since 1969 and has served as the director of its Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute, which is now being renamed in his honor.
