Coronavirus resurgence weighs on oil prices

Soaring coronavirus cases, coupled with weak economic data and OPEC+'s plans to scale back production cuts, pushed oil futures lower on Thursday. September West Texas Intermediate crude fell 3.3% to $39.92 per barrel, marking the first time in three weeks it closed below $40 per barrel, while Brent for September delivery was down nearly 1.9% to $42.94 per barrel.
