Local frac sand may help Permian drillers slash costs

The availability of locally sourced frac sand could help Permian Basin operators cut sand costs by 40% to 50% and potentially save $500,000 per well, according to market research consultancy Energent. Permian sand mines are expected to produce over 7 million tons of premium frac sand per quarter by the end of this year, reducing drillers' reliance on costly sand from Wisconsin.
