A program aimed at boosting attendance at a Texas elementary school has grown to include schools throughout Texas and Oklahoma, and now is focused on social and emotional as well as project-based learning skills. The Minitropolis allows students to immerse themselves in the operation of a small city -- with roles including IRS agents, bankers and shop owners -- to help them apply academic lessons in real-world settings.
