Education leaders gathered at Columbia University in 1939 to discuss standardizing school bus design, including adopting the iconic yellow color that has covered the buses for the past 80 years. The color was proposed by education expert Frank Cyr who asserted that the color would increase safety and make the buses easy to recognize.
