Conn. high court: Patient can sue over improper release of medical records

The Connecticut Supreme Court decided 6-0 on Thursday that a woman can sue a health care provider over the release of her medical records without her permission, which she says led to harassment by a man pursuing custody of her child. The decision, which establishes a new state law, is significant because courts have previously held that such private lawsuits are prohibited under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
