US District Judge Marsha Pechman on Friday found that transgender individuals are a protected class and upheld injunctions against President Donald Trump's move to prohibit military service by transgender people. Pechman held that the government must demonstrate that the ban stems from "compelling interests" and not "prejudice or stereotype," and she said Trump had not identified any generals or military experts with whom he had consulted about the ban, "despite having been ordered to do so repeatedly."
