Feds issue stricter guidelines for asylum-seekers, refugee applicants

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services office has given interviewers guidance narrowing the approval criteria for asylum-seekers on US soil and refugee applicants abroad. The revised guidance rules out eligibility based on the threat of domestic or gang violence, and it advises that illegal entry into the US may "weigh against a favorable exercise of discretion" for asylum.
