Administration mulls new COVID-19 testing strategy

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci said federal health officials are having "intense discussions" about turning to pooled testing to boost the administration's COVID-19 testing capacity as cases surge. The approach allows testing of more individuals with fewer resources by pooling samples from a group of people and running a single test -- if the result is positive, each sample is tested individually to determine who is infected, but if it is negative, no follow-up is needed.
