PwC's Health Research Institute says states passed 14 drug pricing transparency laws last year, up from four a year earlier, and lawmakers in more states are introducing similar legislation. Also in 2017, Maryland, New York and Vermont passed legislation establishing price controls for expensive medications. Measures being examined or implemented include Medicaid drug spending targets and requirements that drugmakers apply rebates to out-of-pocket cost caps on pricier specialty drugs.
