Engineers shift focus on Calgary dam upgrade

The 87-year-old Glenmore Dam in Calgary, Alberta, was not originally built with flood risk in mind, but a 2013 flood event forced the city to optimize the mitigation capabilities of the structure, says engineer Patrick Mackie. The city is nearing the end of a refurbishment project that has involved installing new gates and a new independent hoist system above deck level.
