New York Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration intends to spend $800 million on water main replacements and associated infrastructure improvements over the next two years, as problems associated with the aging water system continue to mount. New York has experienced over 400 water main breaks annually since 1998, according to the city Department of Environmental Protection.
