Researchers from the Netherlands analyzed the use of shielding in pelvic imaging exams and found that "discontinuation of gonad shielding seems ... justifiable" for men and women because of radiation dosage limitation and technological advancements. The study, published in Insights into Imaging, also cited detailed understanding of radiation biology and technology optimization as reasons for discontinuing pelvic shielding use.
