Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and other technology companies large and small are developing apps based on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standards for consumers and health care professionals to share data on symptoms, diagnoses, medical services and more. FHIR might also facilitate sharing of patient-generated data, but older standards are still in use across the industry, persistent blocking of information threatens to undermine data-sharing initiatives and privacy concerns have yet to be addressed.
