Argentinian researchers reviewed 16 studies that included 619 patients in total and found that F-18-fluorocholine PET/CT yielded high accuracy, specificity, sensitivity and positive predictive values in diagnosing individuals with hyperparathyroidism. The approach, described in JAMA Otolaryngology -- Head & Neck Surgery, may be used in tougher hyperparathyroidism cases and in the event of negative or discordant findings from first-line tests, such as sestamibi scans and ultrasound, researchers said.
