Teen girls have longer recovery from sports-related concussions

Researchers found that 50% of female adolescent athletes who had their first sports-related concussion remained symptomatic after at least 28 days, compared with 11 days among 50% of male athletes. The findings in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, based on data involving 212 student athletes ages 11 to 18, also showed that only 42% of girls recovered within three weeks, compared with 75% of boys.
