Type 2 diabetes patients who had more than five hypoglycemic episodes per year had a 61% higher risk of suffering from cardiovascular events, particularly cardiac arrhythmias and cerebrovascular accidents, compared with those who had one to five hypoglycemic episodes per year. The findings, presented at the American Diabetes Association's virtual Scientific Sessions, also found that diabetes patients with over five hypoglycemic episodes per year were more likely to be 65 years or older and slightly more likely to be taking insulin.
