Local control of basal cell carcinoma lesions was 98% and 96% for squamous cell carcinoma over a median of 24 months among elderly patients who received high dose-rate brachytherapy for early-stage nonmelanoma skin cancer of the neck and head region, according to a study presented at the Radiological Society of North America's annual meeting. Researchers analyzed 70 patients with a median age of 85 and found excellent cosmetic outlook in 90% of cases and no cases of cartilage necrosis.
