Beginning in calendar year 2019, eligible hospitals, clinicians and health care professionals will use the Clinical Quality Language standard for reporting electronic clinical quality measures in CMS quality programs, including the EHR Incentive Programs, Merit-based Incentive Payment System and the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program, the agency announced. CQL, an HL7 International standard, is targeted at improving the clarity and accuracy of eCQMs and consolidating logic expression for eCQMs and clinical decision support.
